A DEPLETED Isle of Wight RFC side finished bottom of the Counties Hampshire 2 table after suffering their 15th loss of the season.

In their final league match of a miserable season, they were well beaten by a strong Fordingbridge outfit on Saturday.

Isle of Wight struggled with the referee's breakdown interpretation, leading to turnovers and breakaway tries, despite having a fair share of possession.

The second half mirrored the first, with the Rangers displaying attacking strength, but not converting it into points.

However, a series of penalties allowed player-coach David Blackman to score, with Dan Ward adding the conversion.

Despite finishing bottom of the nine-team table, Isle of Wight will face Locks Heath Pumas on April 5.

The Pumas dropped out of the league mid-season and have played many of their league fixtures as friendlies.
