Tries flowed freely across the country as the RFU Championship returned to action.

Round 13 saw Doncaster Knights inflict a second league defeat of the season on league leaders Ealing Trailfinders thanks to a late Alex Dolly penalty, while Chinnor broke Caldy hearts late on and Hartpury outlasted Bedford Blues.

Elsewhere, Ampthill overcame Nottingham while Coventry were the victors against Cambridge.

Doncaster do the double

A late penalty from Alex Dolly saw Doncaster Knights edge out Ealing Trailfinders 20-18.

Craig Willis kicked the league leaders into the advantage from the spot early on before Maliq Holden raced onto Morgan Bunting's cross-field kick to put Doncaster ahead, only for Angus Kernohan to dot down in the corner to secure a slender 8-7 lead for Ealing entering the break.

The hosts retook the lead after the restart when Logovi'i Mulipola went over from up-close, with Trailfinders offering an instant reply with Kernohan's second score of the game, though Alex Dolly would extend Doncaster's advantage from the spot just minutes later.

With five minutes to go, Tom Collins looked to secure the result for Ealing when he beat his man before racing over in the corner, only for Dolly to break Ealing hearts with the last kick of the game and inflict a second defeat of the season on the league leaders.

Chinnor get past Caldy

A last-minute try saw Chinnor come out on top against Caldy after a wild finish to proceedings in Birkenhead.

Chinnor took the lead when Morgan Passman shut down a Caldy kick to run through before passing it to Kieran Goss on the wing for an easy finish, only for the hosts to roar back thanks to a penalty from Lewis Barker and a try from Will Robinson.

After trading blows with three points each from the tee early in the second half, Chinnor retook the lead when Grant Hughes found himself in space on the blind side before dotting down.

Caldy looked to have put the game to bed when Joe Bedlow crossed over the line with less than five minutes left to play, but Chinnor stunned the hosts with a last-minute try, Nathan Chamberlain holding his nerve for the conversion to secure a 24-23 win.

Hartpury dent Bedford's title hopes

A closely-fought battle saw Hartpury emerge the victors after a hard-fought 29-26 win over second-placed Bedford Blues.

An awkward bounce of the ball saw Hartpury captain Jack Davies score the first try of the game after just three minutes, with Oisin Heffernan levelling the scores not long after.

After an even opening 10 minutes, Hartpury hit the front thanks to a Harry Bazalgette penalty and two tries from Mike Austin, with Bedford's Joel Matavesi and Louis James narrowing the deficit.

Hartpury pulled further away in the second half after Bedford struggled to contain an ambitious kick from Bazalgette, Matt Protheroe dotting down to clinch the bonus point.

Though Lucas Titherington would cut the margin to just three points, that would be as good as it got for Blues as Hartpury ran out narrow winners.

Pirates plunder Scottish

Cornish Pirates came out winners from a high-scoring affair with London Scottish, with a 41-31 victory in Penzance.

Will Trewin put Pirates out in front early into proceedings, only for Jack Ingvall and a penalty from Alec Lloyd-Seed to see Scottish take the lead.

Tomi Agbongbon then dotted down to wrestle back control of the tie for Pirates, with Trewin getting his second try of the afternoon after Scottish lock Harry Browne initially replied back.

A Bruce Houston penalty ensured Pirates were in full control of the game entering the break, with Sol Moody muscling over for the bonus point not long after the restart.

Though Scottish answered back through Austin Wallis, they could only watch as Moody secured his second try before Dan Hiscocks scored to open up a 17-point gap.

While the visitors were unable to overturn the deficit, the last action of the game saw Scottish secure a bonus point to take home to London when Zach Carr raced down the right wing to score a try which Lloyd-Seed converted to end the game 41-31.

Coventry conquer Cambridge

A double from Coventry captain Jordan Poole helped Coventry hold off Cambridge 43-33.

Coventry took the lead not long into the start when Poole drove over the line, with Cambridge's Will Glister restoring parity minutes later.

Two tries in two minutes from debutant Jake Henry and Oli Morris fired Coventry into the lead again before Poole picked up his second score of the game, with Josh Barton ending the first half with another try for the hosts after Iestyn Rees had narrowed the gap for the visitors.

The second half began with Glister crossing over the line for the second time, with Archie Vanes clinching the bonus point for Cambridge minutes after Ryan Hutler had extended Coventry's advantage.

With Cambridge looking to mount a comeback, Suva Ma'asi put paid to any hopes of a reversal, with Pete White's late try scant consolation for the visitors.

Ampthill outlast Archers

Ampthill outfought Nottingham 43-32 in a game which saw tries flow freely at both ends of the pitch at Olney Field.

Visitors Nottingham opened the scoring inside the first minute, spreading the ball out wide for Kegan Christian-Goss to dot down, with Ampthill levelling the scores when Rhys Marshall muscled over the line for his first try.

A penalty and try from Josh Barton saw the Mob edge out in front before they extended their advantage thanks to Valentino Mapapalangi and Marshall's second try of the game after Jack Stapley had previously cut the deficit.

Matthew Arden narrowed the gap on the stroke of half time, befoer Harry Graham scored two tries in five minutes to retake the lead.

Oran McNulty then put Ampthill back into the lead with 10 minutes remaining before a late penalty try made sure of victory for the hosts
