Mark Hughes insisted he was unaware of what caused a tunnel bust-up following Carlisle United’s victory over Bromley.

Players and coaches appeared to be involved in post-match scenes as the teams left the pitch at Brunton Park.

Some Bromley players also responded to the taunts of Carlisle fans in the Paddock in the immediate aftermath of United’s 2-1 win.

Among those involved in the exchanges by the tunnel was Bromley’s captain and former United defender Byron Webster, as he had an exchange of views with Blues coach Jamie Devitt.

Numerous other members of personnel from both sides were close by as tempers appeared to fray after certain players, including Harry McKirdy, went down the tunnel.

Blues head coach Hughes, though, said he was oblivious to what had happened.

“Nobody’s said anything to me yet, so it couldn’t have been much,” he told the News & Star after the game. “I didn’t see it.”

The post-match scenes followed a high-octane game from the crowd’s point of view, with United’s supporters responding in full volume to events at Brunton Park.

As well as roaring Carlisle to a winning performance, the home faithful also vented at Bromley goalscorer and former Blues forward McKirdy.

He was jeered throughout and also aimed comments at the Paddock when he went down the tunnel after being substituted in the second half.

McKirdy had scored Bromley’s equaliser after Stephen Wearne’s opener, before Callum Whelan struck a second-half winner for the Cumbrians.

The victory – a first home win under Hughes – cut bottom-placed Carlisle’s gap to survival to seven points with nine games remaining.
