FORMER Warrington Wolves forward Matty Nicholson made an immediate impact on the NRL on Saturday morning and in the process, he kept an impressive personal streak going.
The 21-year-old back-rower made his Canberra Raiders debut in their Round Two clash against Brisbane Broncos and having initially been named on the bench, he was promoted to the starting side by head coach Ricky Stuart.
And Nicholson repaid him in spades by scoring two tries in Canberra’s 32-22 victory at GIO Stadium, which means they have now won both of their NRL matches this season.
Starting in the right-edge berth he made his own during his successful two-and-a-half seasons at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, Nicholson took just eight minutes to open his try-scoring account as he was sent through a hole by Jamal Fogarty.
Then, just shy of half-time, he managed to twist through a tackle to muscle over from close range and set his side on their way to stretching clear of the Broncos.
It now means Nicholson has scored tries on his competitive debut for each of the three clubs he has played for – he marked his Wire bow with two tries against Catalans Dragons at Magic Weekend 2022 while he also scored a try on his Wigan Warriors debut against Huddersfield Giants back in 2021.
