Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.

The 22-year-old has had quite the season so far, conceding just 11 times in the Championship as the Clarets battle for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Trafford has kept 25 clean sheets in the league, including a remarkable run of 1,132 minutes without conceding before the recent 2-1 victory at Cardiff.

The shot stopper helped England Under-21s win the Euros in 2023, saving a penalty in stoppage time during the final against Spain.

He received his first senior call-up last year and was a substitute for the friendly against Belgium at Wembley.

After the goalless draw against Sunderland in January, in which Trafford saved two penalties from Wilson Isidor, Burnley boss Scott Parker hailed the youngster as a future England goalkeeper.

“In terms of what we’ve seen from him this is a boy with absolutely humongous potential. I still think there’s so much more to come from him,” said Parker.

“I’ve got nothing but positives to say about James. When I first came in there were some struggles and he came out the back of a season last year that was difficult for Traff, a young boy, going into that division, he had some hard times.

“But this is a special keeper with absolutely huge potential. You see that confidence.

“He believes in himself and to get to that top, top level you have to have that certain belief, that arrogance. He’s got that and he backs it up.”

The Tuchel era begins with a couple of World Cup qualifiers against Albania on Friday, March 21 and Latvia on Monday, March 24.
