Wanderers and Birmingham City have both been charged by the FA following the “mass confrontation” during the final stages at the Toughsheet Community Stadium last week.

Tempers flared in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Jordi Osei-Tutu was tackled near the corner flag.

Once things had settled down, Osei-Tutu, Chris Forino, Luke Harris and Christoph Klarer were all booked by referee Thomas Kirk.

Bolton came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory on the night thanks to goals from John McAtee, George Thomason and Aaron Collins.

It was only the Blues’ third league defeat of the season and their first since November 23 against Shrewsbury.

Both clubs have been given until Wednesday, March 12 to respond to their respective charges.

A statement via the official FA Spokesperson account said: “Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City have been charged following the mass confrontation at their EFL League One fixture on Tuesday, March 4.

“Both clubs allegedly failed to ensure that their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 95th minute.

“Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City have until Wednesday, March 12 to provide their respective responses.”

Wanderers are back in action on Tuesday night when they head to the Memorial Stadium to take on Bristol Rovers.

The Whites have won five of their last six games in the league and sit in the play-off places with 11 games to go.

Steven Schumacher’s men also host Stockport County this weekend before the international break.
