Simon Parker was left frustrated by set-piece issues as Blackburn Rovers Women were beaten by Charlton Athletic Women.

Rovers had an uphill task at half-time for the second week running as goals from Gracie Pearce and Jodie Hutton put the Addicks in command.

Deadball situations were their undoing, with Pearce controlling a corner at the back post to steer in on 20 minutes. Hutton then went from provider to goal-scorer as she curled in a brilliant free-kick just before the interval.

Charlton added some gloss to the scoreline when Kayleigh Barton was set free by Gloria Siber and slotted past Brooks and into the bottom right-corner.

Rovers did at least get one back through when Tyler Toland's shot in the box found the bottom left corner. However, it was far too late and the added time goal didn't detract from a disappointing afternoon.

“It’s disappointing. I feel like in the first-half we had some really good moments, we were aggressive, on the front foot and created a few chances, their goalkeeper made a few good saves and we had a couple of shots wide," head coach Parker reflected.

“It’s disappointing to concede from set-pieces again, one off a corner and the free-kick which we were disappointed to give away and that we couldn’t defend the free-kick, because it was a great free-kick.

“In the second-half, we make the errors and played ourselves into trouble so we have to tidy up on that, but the character of the group to keep going and get the goal at the end."

He added: “I can’t fault the endeavour, the effort or the application but we have to tidy up in a few moments and really look at what we do on the ball and just make sure that we are clinical when we have it.”
