Bolton RUFC Under-14s Amazons hosted the Northern Girls Network cluster at the club on Sunday.
Teams from Eccles, Littleborough and NW Roses (an amalgamation of Fylde, Preston, Burnley and Southport) attended with girls from Trafford MV joining the depleted Bolton squad.
The first games were between Bolton and Littleborough and Eccles versus NW Roses.
Littleborough edged Bolton out, winning 10-5 at the end with Aisha Abdi scoring Bolton’s only points, before Eccles ran out winners in their game against the NW Roses.
Bolton faced the NW Roses next and won that game 34-0 with Holly Turner scoring one and Betty Weall getting two, along with three tries scored by the girls from Trafford MV.
On pitch two in a close-fought encounter Littleborough just edged out Eccles to complete their day.
The Bolton-MV final game was against Eccles and again closely-fought, with Bolton only just beating Eccles 19-12 after going ahead 19-0. Eccles fought back bravely to score two tries and convert one of them.
Bolton scorers were Holly Turner and Eilidh Burns. and there was a try by Elicia from Trafford MV. Holly converted two of the tries.
It was a great day for girls’ rugby and with the Women’s World Cup being held in August, it is hoped the girls’ game will grow even more.
