Ian Holloway said that Swindon Town's performance made the 2-2 draw against Salford City feel like a victory.

Swindon came flying out of the blocks and were swiftly rewarded as Tom Nichols scored his first goal for the club from a corner but they were pegged back as Hakeeb Adelakun smashed home a lovely effort from the edge of the box.

In the second half, a quadruple sub sparked Swindon into the lead as Harry Smith was on hand to turn in a mishit shot, only for Salford to go down the other end after a double sub of their own and Kelly N'Mai got the equaliser.

Holloway felt that the quality of their play could easily have seen them out of sight even if they were made to settle for one point.

He said: "I can't fault our performance apart from celebrating the second goal and letting one in so quickly because we didn't even get the chance to sit down.

"I probably over celebrated as well because it was a very lucky goal, that was definitely a shot [from Paul Glatzel] but Harry got a hold of it and stuck it in the net.

"I felt that we deserved that, I think that we created the clearer chances, even if they were a threat.

"I am an attacking coach, I know how to defend and I like to defend high up hurting their back line and the team is really responding to that.

"We deserved more than that today, I will take a point as I thought they were really good and it was a hell of a game of football.

"Their manager has been around for a long time, their club is run by football people, and they have got some really good players but so have we.

"That is what makes me proud and it will fell like a win, it won't feel like a draw to me as all that matters is the performance - that is what I have said all along.

"We created fantastic chances, we just didn't finish them, we could have been 3-0 up after ten minutes but it was not to be.

"We conceded two goals but I won't worry about that because we could have scored six against a team who are really good."

Holloway added that, with Swindon moving a point closer to the playoffs with the draw, that it was a point that sent them in the right direction.

He said: "I just went for it, made four changes and put Botan [Ameen] on as well to put people out wide who could run with it. It was like here we go then.

"We tried and in hindsight it is a point closer to the playoffs with a draw.

"We obviously wanted to win and it is gruelling that we went in front twice and didn't get the win but we are now unbeaten at home in however many games. I thought that the lads played really well."
