Antony has told Real Betis chiefs he wants to stay at the La Liga club beyond this summer after making an electric start to his loan spell in Spain.

The winger has three goals and two assists in his first seven appearances for Betis, and his performances have helped drive the club towards a European qualification place in the La Liga table. Their case was strengthened after they beat Real Madrid 2-1 at the weekend.

Antony joined Betis on loan in January after a difficult few months at Manchester United, having been dropped by Erik ten Hag and then been a peripheral figure under Ruben Amorim. The 25-year-old managed just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games after signing for Ajax for £85million in the summer of 2022.

However, his mid-season switch has reinvigorated him, and he now has designs on winning his place back in the Brazil squad. Reports suggest he is in the frame for a recall, having not played for his country since March 2023.

With the World Cup on the horizon at the end of next season, playing regularly will be key to Antony, and Betis CEO Ramon Alarcon has revealed that he has already expressed a desire to remain at the club next season.

“The other day Antony told me that he wanted to stay another year," Alarcon told Canal Sur's El Pelotazo show.

“The player is very comfortable here and was surprised by the facilities we gave him to settle in the city as soon as he arrived.”

The deal agreed between the two clubs didn't include an option to make the move permanent, with United recouping at least 84% of Antony's wages.

He is likely to leave Old Trafford this summer and his performances for Betis have put him in the shop window.
