Bruno Fernandes has shown his support to Mason Greenwood after he received the Player of the Match award in Marseille's 2-0 win over Nantes.

Greenwood bagged his 15th goal in Ligue 1 in what was his 24th starting appearance for Roberto De Zerbi's side. The 23-year-old left Old Trafford last year after he was suspended by United in January 2022 amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

All these charges were later dropped. During last year's August deadline day, Greenwood moved on loan to Getafe before returning to Carrington and sealing a move to the Ligue 1 side.

After Marseille's second goal against Nantes on Sunday, Greenwood took to Instagram to celebrate, sharing a couple of pictures without a caption.

United captain Fernandes liked the post, as did Diogo Dalot and Ethan Wheatley.

Get Football News awarded Greenwood a 5 in its player ratings. They wrote: "There was some talk of the Englishman being less effective in the second half of this season. Quite frankly, he has been ticking along with the goals since the turn of the year without really the same impact and confidence that he initially had when he joined the club this summer.

"His general build-up play was woeful against Nantes, but all great players can provide the decisive spark even when they aren’t at their very best, and Greenwood provided a moment of real danger with his driving run and electric pace bearing down on the Nantes defence. Sure, the ball fell kindly for him to trundle through, but he finally provided a deadly killer finish which put the result beyond doubt and calmed the nerves at the Velodrome."

Speaking after the win, De Zerbi told reporters: "We deserved the victory. We had a lot of chances, even if it wasn't our best match at the Velodrome."
