HARTLEPOOL United manager Anthony Limbrick felt that his side were unfortunate to be beaten by York City on Saturday.
Saturday’s match saw a sold-out away end pack into the Total Prestige Stadium, as York continued to work their way through their incredibly congested National League schedule – which continues this week with matches on Tuesday and Saturday.
Hartlepool were the opponents on the afternoon having struggled for form as of late, which had seen their push for the play-offs stumped in recent weeks.
Ollie Pearce’s strike was the only difference on the day, as the striker latched onto a scuffed clearance from Malachi Fagan-Walcott’s low cross, with the National League’s top scorer powering an emphatic finish into the roof of the net.
Limbrick felt that his team were unfortunate not to take anything from the match, and spoke on City’s title ambitions with the resources that Adam Hinshelwood’s team possess.
“I thought it was a tight game, a competitive game,” Limbrick told the Hartlepool Mail.
“We competed against a team that are up there challenging for the league, you look at the team that they have got, the resources, and they’re clearly going for the title.
“I thought we gave a fair game of it today.
"I thought we competed, I thought we had enough chances in the game.
“So did they as well, they're obviously a good team. I thought the game was quite tight. They're a good side, clearly.
“They're going for the title, the resources that they have and the players that they've got, they're clearly good players.
“They were missing [Josh] Stones today, that was probably a big loss for them.
“They're a good team and I think we went toe-to-toe with them, I thought it was harsh on us not to get something from the game."
Limbrick also admitted his disappointment with the manner of goal which his Hartlepool side conceded, with Pearce taking advantage of some sluggish defending in the 40th minute.
They had chances to take something from the game themselves, with Luke Charman’s header being pushed against the crossbar by goalkeeper Harrison Male.
The Hartlepool manager added: "We were disappointed with the manner of the goal that we conceded.
“I thought we had some half-chances before that - probably more than half-chances really, we had one where the keeper saved off [Luke] Charman onto the post, we had a header that could have been a handball.
“We worked their ‘keeper a couple of times.”
