Manchester United have been accused of trying to loan Brazilian forward Geyse to clubs in the United States while she attended the funeral of her brother.
Geyse joined United from Barcelona for a club-record fee in the summer of 2023 but has become unhappy and wants to leave.
The forward’s agent, Luis Filipe Silva, told Telegraph Sport that United attempted to send her on loan to a club in the US while she was in Brazil for the funeral of her brother, who passed away in January.
Since returning to United, Geyse has struggled for game time and Silva says the best outcome for all parties is for her to be allowed to leave.
“As you know, her brother passed away, she is going through a very difficult time, it is a very difficult time psychologically and at Man United she is not having the best time,” Silva told Telegraph Sport.
“She needs to regain the joy of playing football and doesn’t have it for several reasons.
“The club has clearly shown that it does not count on Geyse, Man United tried to loan Geyse to a club in the USA, but the player has the right to decide about her future and the club she will play for.
“It was clear that the club and the coach don’t count on her – the pressure of being in a place where you feel you are not wanted is tremendous. It is a huge psychological pressure. We are sad and want the best for Geyse.”
The National Women’s Soccer League window remains open until March 24, meaning Geyse could still join a team in the US on loan, should United permit her to move.
Manchester United told Telegraph Sport: “We continue to support Geyse in her wellbeing and look for options which suit all parties.”
Geyse has been grateful for the support of her team-mates following her brother’s passing, with players holding up a banner in her honour after they beat Manchester City in January,
But the forward is clearly unhappy and posted a cryptic message on Instagram following United’s 2-0 win over Leicester on Sunday, in which she came off the bench in the 84th minute.
“Staying in a place where we don’t feel happy is an agonising and lonely feeling,” Geyse wrote on Instagram. “Every day seems heavier, and the simple fact of being there becomes a burden.”

Speaking about Geyse’s working relationship with United’s head coach Marc Skinner, Silva said: “The coach knows what we think. There is no relationship whatsoever. Professional only.
“Man United made a huge effort to sign Geyse from Barcelona, her quality is recognised by everyone.
“The best solution for all parties is to leave and I repeat, Man United was the first to try to loan the player when she was at her brother’s funeral.
“We are aware of Geyse’s value and at peace, because even with few opportunities, it is with pride that we know that the best coaches in the world want Geyse, and they are coaches elected as the best in the world and who have already won everything, they are top coaches and clubs, we are happy that they can clearly see Geyse’s talent and how to enhance it.
“Geyse wants to return to the Brazilian national team and at the moment it is impossible. But if the best coaches in the world want Geyse at this terrible time, we are honoured.
“At the moment the best solution is for Geyse to be loaned, it is good for all parties. Now we hope that the club will show common sense and understand Geyse’s situation and not make negotiations difficult, since they were the ones who offered the player behind our backs.
“Geyse needs to be happy again and have peace.”
‘I had to go into the bathroom to cry’
It is not the first time a United player has been critical of the club or Skinner. Irene Guerrero, who left the club at the end of last season, said she cried after training sessions under him.
In an interview with Marca, Guerrero said: “I had to go into the bathroom to cry, wash my face and come out as if nothing had happened.
“I asked myself: ‘Why are you coming to sign me, pay a transfer fee and a player on exchange if you don’t count on me later?’”
Speaking about how the rest of the squad at United feel, Silva said: “It’s not up to me [to say] but ask the players, there’s no one better than them, especially those who left. The interview with Irene in Marca was clear.”
