MICHAEL Carrick has made one change to his Middlesbrough side for the game against Derby, with Luke Ayling replacing the injured George Edmundson.

Edmundson and Rav van den Berg are both absent after suffering setbacks this week, but there's a boost in the bench with Jonny Howson back in the squad for the first time in two-and-a-half months.

The captain has been missing since the December draw with Plymouth.

Ayling will partner Dael Fry at centre-half with Anfernee Dijksteel and Neto Borges continuing at full-back. Aidan Morris and Hayden Hackney again start in midfield, with Carrick unsurprisingly sticking with his front four of Marcus Forss, Morgan Whittaker, Finn Azaz and Tommy Conway after the midweek Stoke win.

Matt Clarke misses out for Derby through injury.

Middlesbrough: Travers, Dijksteel, Fry, Ayling, Borges, Hackney, Morris, Forss, Whittaker, Azaz, Conway

Derby: Zetterstrom, Nyambe, Langas, Forsyth, Elder, Adams, Armstrong, Jackson, Barkhuizen, Harness, Yates
