Two-goal Aston Villa hero Marco Asensio has said that his team has the quality to do ‘big things’ this season, with Villa now just one win away from a trip to Wembley.
Villa came out as 2-0 winners over Championship side Cardiff City at Villa Park on Friday night to book their place in the quarter-final of the competition. Asensio scored both goals in the second half as the team broke down the resolute Bluebirds’ defence.
It means that Villa still have eyes on the FA Cup, as well as qualification for the Champions League next season, and the current season’s campaign in the top European competition.

Asensio’s brace is his second in as many games, following the 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend. Three of his four goals have been assisted by fellow January signing Marcus Rashford.
Speaking to ITV Sport after the match, Asensio opened up on his partnership with Rashford and pointed to the quality in the Villa squad, saying it allows them to dream big this season.
“We are together not so much, but I know what he wants to do, where he wants to pass, I’m very happy to have Marcus and all the teammates, we have a good level to try and do big things this season,” he said. “We have to keep pushing, we’re in the right way so yeah, the next step is the Champions League, so now the focus is there.”
There’s not much rest for Asensio and his teammates with Villa back in action on Wednesday night. Unai Emery’s team are back in Champions League action as they take on Belgian side Club Brugge in the first leg of their round of 16 clash at Villa Park (8pm kick-off).
