Jurgen Klopp’s heart-breaking final words to his Liverpool team have been revealed in Amazon Prime’s new Doubters to Believers documentary.

The German departed the Reds last May on a sunny afternoon at Anfield when the Reds easily overturned Wolverhampton Wanderers, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Jarell Quansah.

There were laughs and jokes as Anfield bid farewell to a Liverpool legend and icon, while Klopp himself all but announced his replacement as he chanted Arne Slot’s name around the ground. Even he couldn’t have foreseen the immediate success the new boss would have.

But while it was a happy affair on the pitch, in the changing room the emotions finally showed in the new fly-on-the-wall four part documentary that aired on Amazon Prime on Friday.

“I want to say I love you, it’s been absolutely outstanding,” Klopp said in his final message to the squad. “Thank you for the ride, I’m so proud that I’ve been allowed to be a part of this. Thank you very much and the sky’s the limit for you all.”

The release of the documentary will bring up mixed memories for Liverpool fans, who were blown away by the news that Klopp was set to leave when it became public in January last year. Liverpool were still in the running for four competitions at that time and won the first of those, the Carabao Cup.

But the other three eventually slipped through the team’s grasp in the spring months as the impacts of a draining season took their toll on the players, results and performances.

"We built a long time and we couldn't use the basis we created. That's the personal disappointment I feel in this moment that I couldn't, for whatever reason - I still don't know - create the atmosphere where the boys wouldn't feel the pressure and just [feel] the opportunity,” Klopp reflected during the documentary.

“I'm sitting here now and I'm absolutely fine with what happened, that's it, and I just want to enjoy by last two-and-a-half, three weeks at this wonderful club,” he said.

Klopp has since taken up a job with Red Bull as their new Head of Global Soccer, although the 57-year-old has mainly shied away from speaking publicly, other than a press conference to unveil his arrival.
