Manchester United icon Wes Brown has been unveiled as part of a legends team which will take part in a historic football match against FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park later this year.

The team of United legends will be taking to the pitch against FC United of Manchester as part of celebrations for its 20th anniversary. Brown joins a star-studded team who will compete against The Red Rebels in front of their home crowd.

FC United of Manchester will be fielding their own team of legends - and will welcome the former Red Devils to Broadhurst Park on May 18. The club was founded in 2005 by fans of Manchester United who were disenfranchised by the Glazer takeover. The ties between the two clubs are still evident with a spokesman from the grassroots football club describing it as: "There are two United's but the soul is one."

After Heart of Midlothian and Exeter City, United is the third-largest fan-owned football club in the United Kingdom by number of members. The club describes itself as 'a member-owned democratic, not-for-profit organisation created by Manchester United fans.'. They currently compete in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and are placed 11th out of 22 teams so far this season.

The upcoming match is significant because it is the first-ever match between representatives of both clubs. Fans will get to see well-known players in action and have the chance to meet their idols. FC United's line-up will feature players who have been pivotal to the club's development including their all-time top goalscorer, Tom Greaves, most-capped player Jerome Wright, and the club's FA Cup hero Michael Norton. The trio will also be joined by former captain Dave Brown and fans' favourite from the club's inaugural season, Joz Mitten.

Brown, meanwhile, will return for United alongside fellow Treble winner David May, 1990 FA Cup Final-winning goal-scorer Lee Martin, and ‘80s cult hero Russell Beardsmore. Other players named for United include Keith Gilespie and Danny Webber with more players expected to be announced soon.

Former defender Brown won 13 trophies during his time at United, including from two UEFA Champions Leagues and five Premier League titles. During his time at the club, Brown made 232 appearances and scored three goals before moving on to clubs such as Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers.
