Liverpool tonight host Newcastle in a huge Premier League game. The Reds are flying at the top of the table and are widely expected to win the title, though will tonight be without manager Arne Slot – who is serving a touchline ban following his sending off at Everton earlier this month.

While being caught by Arsenal seems unlikely this stage, Slot is stressing there is still work to be done. With that in mind, a win against a high-flying Newcastle side would be another big step towards the title, and perhaps an early statement of intent between the two ahead of the Carabao Cup final next month.

On their day, Newcastle can beat any team in the League but consistency remains an issue – sometimes even in games. They have a dreadful record at Anfield, so will need to raise their game. Follow all the action LIVE with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog!

Why is Arne Slot banned for Liverpool vs Newcastle?

Arne Slot will not be on the touchline as Liverpool host Newcastle in the Premier League tonight.

It will serve as a dress rehearsal of the Carabao Cup final between the two sides next month, and Liverpool will be confident of landing an early blow at Anfield.

The Reds have lost just once in the Premier League all season and sit 11 points clear at the top of the table, with it increasingly hard to see how any club will stop them from being crowned champions.

Liverpool have been boosted by Alexis Mac Allister‘s fitness ahead of tonight’s visit of Newcastle, but Conor Bradley will definitely miss out.

Mac Allister needed lengthy treatment during the first half of Sunday’s 2-0 win at Manchester City after sustaining a facial injury when colling with Omar Marmoush.

The Argentine was patched up and deemed fine to continue as he played the full 90 minutes at the Etihad Stadium, later saying that he had been left feeling a little dizzy as a picture on social media showed him sporting a black eye and some bruising on his cheek.
